PN Reflection

When I started to write this personal narrative I felt great confusion on what I wanted to write about but as the process went on it became easier. After writing for a while I found that this paper was pretty easy to write but the hard part for me was being thoughtfully descriptive. I don't know why but it is kind of hard for me to write like that. Otherwise over all this was the most fun paper to write and it really opened my eyes and let me think outside the box.

Feedback

The feedback that I received was pretty much what I expected. I need to add more descriptive phrases to liven up my paper. I feel like that is exactly what I am going to do. I just need to doctor the whole thing up and add a bunch of descriptive words. I may need to add a little about the what I have learned part.

What worked and what didn't work

When moving from sketch to draft I tried to refine my story and be more descriptive. Although I am not very good at this I did my best. I still need some work on the what I know now what I didn't know then part of the paper.

Reflecting

The thing that struck me most is the feelings that I felt when I read it out loud. I have told the story a million times but I have never written it down. It is different trying to use descriptive words on paper rather than just speaking it to someone off the top of my head. I liked really reflecting on the story and what happened. The story I want to tell is what you learn from your experiences and how to use what you have learned in everyday life.
I would answer the so what question by just asking the reader to think about what it would be like and just letting them visualize what happened and how I learned from it.
The main thing I am planning on doing is just finishing the story and using more visualizations.

Evaluation

When I was young I felt like everyone in the world was happy and everyone just went along their lives and had fun and did what they needed to do. After time and schooling they started teaching us about the world. They taught us that there were beautiful places to see and visit. They also taught us about the persecution that had happened in the past and what is still happening in some countries. This feeling is a huge letdown. You want everyone to be happy and when you find out some people have no food or water it makes you sad. I wanted to help these people. I went to a Catholic school and we had fund raisers to help areas where they didn't have any food and I got really into it and made lots of money and sent it over but didn't see any results which was kind of a let down also.

As I look at this picture, I can remember when it was taken. This picture was taken a few years ago outside on a deck. I am in this photo with my girlfriends cousin who has down syndrome. She is the coolest person I know. I am very close to my girlfriends family and my girlfriend and I hang out with them a lot. I have a corona t-shirt on and a corona in my had. When I picked this picture I didn't think that it would be saying something about who I am. I have a strong connection with family. Some people don't like going to family gatherings because its boring or they just don't like it. I love them. My family is very melo and we just hang out and play cards and stuff. I sometimes go to my girlfriends family functions. They are just as fun if not more fun than with my family. Maybe it is because the people are new and I find out new things about them every time I see them. Another thing that makes them fun is that in their family unlike mine, they have a lot of little kids so they are fun to play with sometimes. Other times they are annoying.
This picture is taken outside. I really love the outdoors. Everyday that it is nice outside I feel guilty if i am inside. I feel like it is such a waste of a nice day if you aren't outside doing something. I love to grill out and have a few cold beers on a warm afternoon. Who doesn't?
Over all thins picture just brings good thoughts to my head of fun times and good people.

The OBJECT

The object that sticks out in my mind from my childhood is an old moped. This was no ordinary moped it was one that you had to pedal to start. At first I could never start the darn thing but after some practice I could ride it. I think I liked it so much because it went pretty fast(for a 12 year old). I lived out in the country and the few neighbors and friends I had all wanted to ride it. I couldn't let them because my dad said that if they fell off and got hurt it would be our fault. One time my friend and I cut off the muffler so it was really loud. Soon after we did this my dad took it away and got rid of it. This frankly sucked.

Prompts

Listing is a good idea for a prompt because this list can help you evaluate issues quickly without wasting a lot of time. It also lets you think broad or narrow.
Fast writing is very useful because you can write quickly and get the thoughts down before they slip your mind and then come back to it and organize.
Visual prompts help you think outside the box kind of. look at things in different ways and this will give you ideas of arguments about the visual.
Research prompts you collects ideas and do a little research.

Basic arguement strategy

This has info on the percentage of pets in apartment dwellers. How it is hard to find an apartment that allows pets. They also argue that they have to pay an extra fee which makes sence. Some people want pets but cannot have them becauase of where they live.

On and Off-line

I feel that people think that online they can act differently and the same rules do not apply. Shy people are not shy when they are having an instant message conversation. For example. I buy all kinds of things online. I don't think it should matter that I am not taxed for that product. The Internet is a broad thing that opens the doors for a lot of bad things. It would be nice if we had a governing body that protected such things from happening. Although this would be very difficult I feel that taking the right steps we could make it happen. Over all people act differently on the Internet because they feel that no one is watching. unlike in the real world if you are around people most of us have the same values and ethics.

Thoughts

I believe that we should stop the war in Iraq.
We need to set up a government in Iraq. The people there have been under persecution for hundreds of years and need to be free. They deserve the same freedoms that we all take for granted. Our war that we started is not finished so we need to finish it and set up a democracy there.
There are many different perspectives to this very contrivesial subject. Parents whos son or daughter is fighting in Iraq have a very different perspective than the everyday American who just watches the news. Political leaders also have a different view. They know much more than we do.

Argument

An argument that stands out in my mind is when the snow melted in spring my dad wouldn't let us ride our minibikes until June because he said that the ground was to wet and we would rip up the lawn. My argument was that we wouldn't rip up the ground and it was dry for a whole month before June. I was probably like 10 when this argument happened and there after until I was like 15 when I just went out on the motocross bike anyway. I was really mad at the time because that is all I waited for all winter was to ride around and hit jumps. Right now I probably wouldn't act the exact same way, I understand now why he wouldn't let us rip up the grass. Now I would just go somewhere else and tear up some other persons grass. Because it wouldn't be worth my time to argue. I agree with Tannen, she depicts our culture just as I see it. Everyone is so sue happy these days. Frivolous law suits are filed everyday waisting time and money. The people in my culture are very argumentative especially the older people. They stood up for their rights and everything back in their day and still voice their opinions today. For such things as health care and school funding. I feel that everyone should use there voice in arguments and some people should keep their mouths shut when they don't know all the facts.

Publish My Proposal

You should publish my proposal because you will be sorry if you don't. The general audience will walk away with a better understanding of the death penalty and find that it is not economical for our society. These simple paper will change the course of our world and everyone will want to vote against the death penalty and laws will change.

Reflecting on the draft

If I were to write this over again the one thing I would do is narrow my problem a little more. I found so much information that I wanted to include in this paper. I couldn't include this information because the point I wanted to make had so many facts that I might lose the readers interest.

The most important thing I learned about a proposal so far is the problem doesn't have to be everyone's problem. Its such an open thing you can propose absolutely anything.

The most difficult part of the process for me was connecting the idea's. There were so many ideas that i had it was hard to keep them organized.

The biggest question I have about the draft is: Is written well enough to be handed in?

Causes

There is a need for an alternative fuel source in the automotive industry because:
The oil supply on the earth as we know it is diminishing,
Cars today are contributing a lot to pollution.
This pollution is causing global warming.
Gasoline is very expensive.
Gasoline isn't efficient.

The major reason I think that we should develop an alternative fuel source is that we are polluting our earth at an alarming rate. We don't know for sure exactly what is happening to the earth but if you just think about how much CO2comes our of one tail pipe in a year or what ever and then just imagine how many million cars and trucks are on the road everyday pumping out millions and millions of tons of pollution into the air. It has to go some where. I don't think it would be just floating out to space. There is evidence that shows the pollution being trapped in by the O-Zone layer or what ever. This is causing the earths climate to shift. Because of the earth not being able to cool down and the heat being trapped in the effects could be disastrous.
It may not happen in our lifetime but it will happen if we do nothing about it.

IS IT TIME TO DITCH SENIOR YEAR?

My senior year was pretty much a joke. I had mostly everything done besides like 2 classes and they were so easy that I put little to no effort into them at all. I had a vocational auto class in the morning (which was not required) that I always came late to and did not do a whole lot. Although I put in little effort to my senior year I still managed to get pretty good grades. All I can remember is waking up and driving to class extremely tired. Rushing to school knowing that my teacher was going to freak out on me. It wasn't really that bad getting yelled at because there were always kids that would come in later than me, which is usually pretty funny to the class. We had silent reading at the beginning of everyday and that was a good time to catch up on some sleep. Either we could do homework, read, or sleep(which you weren't really suppose to do). Then, twenty minutes later, we got to work on our project (a old or new car you would fix up or maybe just wash and vacuum your car). It was a pretty fun class but that's not what was fun about senior year it was the PARTYING.

Inquiring into "Stand and Deliver"

The seventy percent of college students that procrastinate is a completely reasonable number. I procrastinated doing this reading and homework. This is not a complete procrastination of doing home work but I have had my share of full blown procrastination. Although I have gotten much better at not procrastinating, in high school I was very lazy and never did homework. The reason I think I waited until the last minute to do a project or paper is because I was really lazy and I knew the grades I was pulling were good enough without 100 percent effort. Overall I feel I still procrastinate but I have have come a long way from high school.

My problem is that my good friend mike wants me to go with him on this "spring break trip of a lifetime." He thinks that since we never went on a senior trip that this is our opportunity. He has this old Nissan car that he wants to take down to Arizona where we have a few friends that are living there. He thinks we should chop the top off and drive down there where it is warm. I never said my friend mike was very smart. And there are some obvious problems that may arise that I think through but he obviously doesn't. First of all I don't think the car can make it 1200 or what ever miles it takes to get there. Second, what if it rains??? I mean come on, you can't expect to drive two maybe three days and not run into some sort of precipitation. Lastly I think that far of a drive would just plain suck in a little car.
This situation doesn't really have any life or death consequences at the moment so it isn't a very serious problem but it is coming up soon so i have to think about it and make a decision soon.
Now, what I should do about this situation is either just go with him and wing it or get a couple plan tickets instead.
Either way if I go I should have fun but it's the means of transportation and what mike wants to do is the problem.

Summary of Happy Gilmore

1.) The movie "Happy Gilmore" is one of the most hilarious films ever maid. It is also in my opinion Adam Sandler's best performance. This movie is a comedy about a wannabe pro hockey player turned golfer. He faces many challenges when trying to raise money to keep his grandmothers house.

Happy tried out for his home town professional hockey team every year. And every year he fails hilariously. After his attempt this year he finds that his grandmothers house is getting repossessed and decides to do something about it. After he is surprised by finding an amazing running tee off shot, Happy decides to try it in the pro golf world to make some money.

Every spectator and player at the pro open is astonished to see Happy's amazing long drive. He even manages to get a hole in one on a par four which is almost impossible. After working his way up in pro golf and making some money happy is just short of making enough to save his grandmothers house.

During the tour Happy makes an enemy who is the best pro golfer at the time, Shooter Mcgavin. When Shooter ends up buying the house when it is auctioned off, Happy challenges him for the house. Happy ends up winning the house and there is a happy ending.

All during this film Happy has many obstacles to overcome to keep his grandmothers house. He prevails in the end while giving the audience a belly ache full of laughs. Over all I'll give Happy Gilmore five out of five stars.


2.)My biggest concern in approaching this summary assignment is just bringing all the ideas together, a good thesis, and having a good flow to my paper.
I think I will be able to pull good facts from the article and pick good supporting details. I think this will be the easiest part of writing the summary.

2.1 What do you believe

I believe that a reader that reads fast and only has to read a particular reading once to understand and retain the information. The reason I believe this is because I don't think I am a good reader. I can read well but sometimes I have to read things more than once to completely understand what it says. I also am not a very fast reader. I'm not really slow but I'm no speed demon either. If you can read fast and understand everything the first time that makes you a fast and efficient reader.

When I was very young my mom or my dad would always read me green eggs and ham before I went to sleep. I remember how I loved that book so much I refused to sleep until it was read to me. I would never want to go to sleep in general I guess. I would always want to keep playing Lego's or watch more TV. My mom would always say how I was tired, but I never seemed to feel tired. This probably happens with a lot of young boys.

I don't think I am a good reader but I also don't think I am a bad reader at the same time. As I said previously, I don't read incredibly fast but I do read at a decent pace. The other reason that I would say I am an OK reader is because sometimes if I don't completely understand a passage in a text book or novel I sometimes reread it to fully understand what the author is trying to say.

1.4 A moment in the past

When the first of April was around the the corner I couldn't wait to go ride my dirt bike. When I was young my family lived out in the country. My dad wouldn't let my brother and I ride our dirt bikes until April because the ground was to wet. The day finally came and I am so excited. Early in the morning we were up before my dad and got dressed on our riding gear and the bike didn't start. I spent like three hours trying to get it to start even though I had no idea what I was doing. Finally I started the mini bike. I rode around and around the yard. I rode for what it seemed like forever and loved every minute of it. This was one my favorite times of the year, after chirstmas ofcorse. This is still my favorite past time although the bike and I have grown.


-I think I would have tried to make it flow better if I had to read this outloud and maybe write slower so that all the sentances make sense. I think that this writing experience let me reflect on a very fun time of my young life and helped me free my mind of trying to write perfect and just write what comes to mind.


- As i look back on the moment, I now realize that I can fast write. Before I thought that I needed to anylize every sentance after I write it. now it is easier for me to find things to say when I free my mind and let the words just come out. I think that this tecnique will help my overall writing and not make me as stressed about writing papers.

- When I looked back on my fast write and found significant passages I found that the fast write was easier to write than the paragraph that followed. there was more direct thought about the thingsi said. This took me more time to think about what I am going to write.

1.1

I believe that practice is the key to a writers development. When a person practices writing they are eventually going to get better. They will find different mistakes that they have made in their previous writing. They will also find their strengths and weaknesses. I am not a very strong write. I have always struggled with writing papers.
The belief that I disagree with is the one that says the best way to develop as a writer is to copy another writer's style. If you were to do this you would not be a writer at all you would just be a writer copying another writer. when you write you need to be yourself and express your idea's. When you copy someone else you are just copying them not writing at all.
I had to borrow a book so I only had a few minutes.
